God Never Called Us To Settle

Recently, my aunt came to visit, and she brought along one of my favorite snacks—Popcorners. Excited, I tore open a bag, ready to dive in. But the first chip I bit into was stale. Disappointed but determined not to waste food, I kept eating, convincing myself that the other bag was probably stale too.

I had resigned myself to the lackluster experience until a small voice nudged me, “Check the other bag.” Reluctantly, I did. To my surprise, the second bag was fresh, crisp, and every bit as delightful as I remembered. The difference was night and day. And yet, I would’ve never known the joy of that fresh bag if I hadn’t stopped settling for the stale one.

It got me thinking: How often do we stay stuck in stale situations because we’ve already convinced ourselves that nothing better is waiting?

Why We Settle For The Stale

Sometimes we hold on to old circumstances out of fear, habit, or even a misguided sense of loyalty. We tell ourselves:

  • “This is as good as it gets.”
  • “If this didn’t work, why would the next thing?”
  • “I don’t want to disappoint others by changing.”

But here’s the truth: God doesn’t call us to settle.

In Isaiah 43:19, the Lord says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

How many of us are asking God to change our circumstances while ignoring His invitation to step into the new? Sometimes we miss it because we’re clinging to the old—old mindsets, old fears, or old comforts. Just like I assumed the second bag would be stale, we assume the next opportunity, relationship, or situation will be more of the same.

God is saying: “Let go of the stale so you can taste the fresh.”

We pray for a sign, yet He’s already provided the fresh bag. The sign isn’t waiting—it’s in the action of trusting Him and stepping out. In James 2:26, we’re reminded that “faith without works is dead.” Sometimes, the act of faith is simply letting go of the old to receive the new.

What Are You Holding On To?

Are you staying in a stale situation because:
- It feels “wasteful” to walk away?
- You’re afraid of the unknown?
- You’ve convinced yourself there’s nothing better?

Let this serve as your reminder: God has fresh opportunities, fresh joy, and fresh purpose waiting for you in 2025. You won’t find them if you keep partaking in the old.

Step Into The Fresh

Take a moment to reflect on this year. Ask yourself:
1. What stale thing am I holding on to?
2. What fear or belief is keeping me from moving forward?
3. Where is God inviting me into the new?

2025 is the year to stop settling. So, go ahead. Put down the stale. Open the fresh. Step into the abundance God has prepared for you. You’ll never know the joy waiting on the other side until you do.

Let’s make this the season of stepping out, trusting God, and embracing the new!

Prayer For New Beginnings

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God of new beginnings. Thank You for always providing fresh opportunities, even when we can’t see them. Lord, forgive us for the times we’ve settled for less than Your best out of fear, doubt, or weariness. Reveal to us the areas in our lives that are stale. Help us to release the stale things we’re holding on to and give us the courage to step into the new.

Open our eyes to the blessings You’ve already placed before us, and fill our hearts with the faith to trust Your plans. We declare today that we are ready to let go of the old and walk boldly into the fresh, abundant life You’ve prepared for us.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.

Faucet Sprayer

I told myself I wanted to stop washing my hair in the shower because although it was easier, cleaning the drain was becoming a pain. I bought this little affordable attachment that makes washing my hair at the sink so much easier. Where has this been all my life!

Essential Oil Kit

Stress Management is super important for my health and essential oils are one of my tools to have handy. I'm obsessed with the Rose, Jasmine and Vanilla scents. Although the bottles are small it is concentrated so it will last for a decent time.

a black woman staring at a clock waiting

I can’t lie—sometimes I catch myself scrolling through Instagram, seeing people I grew up with—or even total strangers—getting exactly what they prayed for. And here I am… still wondering, still waiting. Did God forget about me? I know I heard Him clearly. I’m sure of His promises. But every time I get my hopes up, another day, another month, another year goes by. And I start to wonder: Am I running out of time? The first thing I had to realize is that time isn’t even a limitation in God’s...

How God mold and shapes us

In one of my videos, “Am I Lazy?”, I briefly shared about my battles with chronic pain—specifically from complications of the shingles virus. Contrary to popular belief, shingles isn’t just for the elderly. It can reoccur in unexpected ways and cause long-term damage. Recently, I experienced a flare-up, and with it, I found myself slipping mentally back into a dark place I thought I had left behind. A place I thought I was delivered from. But in the midst of my pain, God, in His infinite love...

I've missed you guys so much! Your girl has been gone for a while and the subject of this newsletter should give you some clue as to exactly why. Trust me, I hear you Reader, it sounds a bit harsh, but bear with me. The truth is many of us get this walk with God confused, which is why we often end up feeling disappointed or discouraged. So many messages out there focus solely on what God can do for us. It’s easy to get caught up in a self-centered mindset, where we believe the world—and even...
